About history

Sulaimani Polytechnic University (SPU) is a public academic institution and a member of the International Association of Universities (IAU) and member of the Association of the Arab Universities (AARU). It is located in the city of Sulaimani, Qirga neighborhood in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It was founded in 1996 under the name of Foundation of Technical Institutions, and then in 2003 it was changed to Foundation of Technical Education in Sulaimani (FTES), after that it was restructured to Sulaimani Polytechnic University in 2012.


The Research Center (RC) as a part of Sulaimani Polytechnic University (SPU) brings together local and international scholars and researchers to undertake state-of-art high quality research. Through our group research projects, we strive to create new knowledge that scholarly contribute to sciences, arts, and humanities. By collaborating with our local and international partners, our scholars undertake research projects that address the local and global needs and challenges. Our research projects involve and engage stakeholders from academia, local government, community, NGOs, and industry. We encourage interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research, and, therefore, connect ideas and scholars from different fields and disciplines in our projects.
